Go beyond your textbooks, says Anna University Vice-Chancellor

NAMAKKAL: “Do not confine yourself to textbooks alone, inculcate the habit of additional reading for which teachers should assist you,” said K.Karunakaran, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Coimbatore.

Inaugurating the Post Graduate programmes in the institutions of Paavai Educational Group at Pachal near here, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need for imbibing qualities like discipline, time management, spirituality and cleanliness.

“The role of an institution does not stop at giving education, but must concentrate on developing the values and character of its students,” he said and added that in 1970, only eight colleges functioned and produced 750 engineers.

He asked the students to learn to respect time and also others. “Adhere to the timings of the institute strictly. Do the allotted jobs at the given time. This will improve your commitment and credibility. Focus your attention to classroom instruction which will help you score high marks,” he said.

The teachers must take pain to assign creative works to the students, which would make them look for additional information from other sources.

“Give your students enough room for developing their speaking and communication skills,” he said.
