CPI activists stage demonstration

Kolhapur: Activists of the Communist Party of India and members of various other organisations staged a demonstration during the visit of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to Kolhapur on Thursday.
Demands
Facing police action, the activists met the Chief Minister with a number of demands, including the welfare of farmers and farm workers, wages for maids and deleting undue conditions in the Right to Education Act.
Promises
At a number of public functions in the city, the Chief Minister promised to provide funds for civic amenities with an appeal to citizens to vote for the Congress in the elections to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation.
