VIZIANAGARAM: CPI (M) has alleged that revenue and police officials are toeing the line of landlords and it is evident from the fact that several tribal families have been running from pillar to the post seeking justice for the last few years. At a press conference on Friday, the party district secretary M. Krishna Murty said four tribal women -- Munagapu Pandamma, Munagapu Lakshmi and two others of the same name -- had been cultivating 10 acres of ‘konda poramboke' land in survey number 6/3 at Devunikanapaka village in Gurla mandal for several decades. In 2008, K. Venkata Rao and Palli Krishna, landlords of China Bantupalli in Merakamudidam mandal grabbed their land, he alleged. In spite of a complaint lodged in Gurla police station in February 2008 and also with the tehsildar no action had been taken till date. Baaka Venkati of Vanija, hamlet of Pittada panchayat in Mentada mandal, is another victim of landholders Lagudu Satyam and Lagudu Sanyasappadu. They allegedly occupied his five acres of cultivable land in survey number 50 even after their petition filed on behalf of Kilikichichi Simhachalam, a tribal, in court was dismissed. Venkati was allegedly abused in the name of caste and assaulted by them. Mr. Krishnamurty demanded that the police register case under SC/ST Atrocities (Protection) Act against them. At Aguru panchayat in Mentada mandal 20 acres of poramboke in forest area (survey number 242) that was being cultivated by tribal families for decades was handed over to one Kalidindi Ramachandra Rao of Konisi village in Gajapathinagaram mandal in 2002. The tribal families had been seeking justice since then but the Revenue and police officials were ignoring their plea, he alleged.
