Nikeesha Patel and Pawan Kalyan in ‘Komaram' Puli Film: ‘Komaram' Puli Cast: Nikeesha Patel, Pawan Kalyan. Direction: S.J. Surya. History repeats. When movies are hyped, it invariably becomes tough to sustain the same. This typically seems what a film that took about two years to shoot has turned out to be. It is one with loads of commercial elements - ‘dishum-dishum' and glamour, not to forget the emotional aspects that make avid movie buffs wring their hankies. ‘Komaram' Puli is in no way different from most of the entertainment we see on the big screen, except for the fact that it has a ‘known' director and a Powerstar, apart from music by the maestro A.R. Rahman. Without going into the technicalities of how the story could have been woven into the screenplay and stuff like that, it is a typical film with lots of eye-pleasing visuals. It starts with Manoj Bajpai the villain making viewers wince by literally stamping Saranya on her pregnant tummy when she asks him where her police officer husband is. She escapes from the clutches of the villains and after a typical scene where she screams at God in a forest temple, she delivers a baby boy. Cut and the next we know is the hero doing all sorts of acrobatics in Thailand in his endeavour to protect the Prime Minister, a role essayed by Girish Karnad. Pawan Kalyan with his histrionics, an item number by Sriya Saran and a couple of songs where the glamour of heroine Nikeesha Patel is showcased pretty well for the front-benchers. But much could have been done to improve overall quality of the film. SURESH KRISHNAMOORTHY
