KANCHIKACHERLA: Trouble broke out here on Friday following a clash between two groups of the village over installation of a statue of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Tahsildar N. Vijay Kumar in his capacity as Mandal Executive Magistrate clamped Section 144 and 145 of the Cr.P.C to prevent assembling of people at the disputed site and to bring back normalcy. Mr. Vijay Kumar said that a group of Congress supporters and another one of a community entered into a dispute over the installation of the statue. Problem began after the panchayat convened a special meeting on September 9 and went back on its earlier resolution passed on August 31 to install the statue at the disputed site. This was done after a community objected to the proposal as the place was being used for parking of vehicles. On coming to know of the panchayat's decision, Congress supporters decided to install the statue at any cost and started work late Thursday night. Revenue and police officials called the groups and explained to them that approval by a district panel headed by the Collector was necessary.
