Dormitory near KGH for the poor

VISAKHAPATNAM: A dormitory to accommodate 1,000 poor patients and their family members visiting the King George Hospital will come up at a cost of Rs.2 crores next to the hospital, Rajya Sabha member and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forest T. Subbarami Reddy said here on Friday.

Talking to media persons, he said he took the decision after watching the family members of poor patients from outside the city sleeping under the trees and pavements. The foundation stone for the project on a two-acre site would be laid on his birthday on September 17 and the project would be completed in a year, he said. Land was also being identified for setting up a home with Rs.3 crore for orphaned children and this project would also be ready in a year, he said.

Dr. Reddy also announced that the air-conditioned railway passenger reservation complex would be inaugurated on September 24. He also got an assurance from the Railway Board that eight of the 10 trains going via Duvvada bypassing Visakhapatnam would shortly be routed via Visakhapatnam railway station.

“ I also sought introduction of trains to Mangalore, Jodhpur, Varanasi and Shirdi from Visakhapatnam. Besides, I have also spoken to Air India authorities for introduction of an Airbus between Delhi, Visakhapatnam and Chennai and between Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Mumbai. In addition to this, two flights to Singapore and Dubai were proposed and they are working on it,” he stated.

On the political situation in the state vis-a-vis ‘Odarpu Yatra' by MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, Dr. Reddy said Mr. Rosaiah was doing a great job and Delhi was extremely pleased with him. As for Mr. Jagan, he said the young MP had bright future. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, MLAs Malla Vijaya Prasad and T. Vijaya Kumar, former MLA T. Gurumurthy Reddy and others were present.
