TTD security officials in a spot

Staff Reporter

Tirumala: The ‘hollowness' in the TTD's security arrangements was exposed on Saturday when an ‘armed' police personnel entered the main temple complex through the highly fortified Vaikuntam queue complex ( as the department claims ) and came out of the temple after spending nearly an hour inside.

The secret operation was carried out by a senior police officer who is here supervising the arrangements being made for the nine-day festival period.

Even though the operation was intended at testing the ‘dexterity' of the on duty security personnel and not to vilify the image of the TTD's security wing the department came under a cloud of criticism for its ostensible display of facts.

It was only the other day the department had talked much about going in for a ‘three tier' security system atop the temple town besides having a constant aerial surveillance on the entire hill town.

The armed police officer in ‘mufti' gained entrance into the main temple complex crossing all the security barriers with ease not to talk much about the highly improvised security scanner set up a few metres ahead of the ‘mahadwaram' ( main entrance ) of the temple.
