Mahasamprokshanam held

holy event:Priests pouring holy water during samprokshanam at Sri Bakthavatsala Perumal Temple.

TIRUVARUR: Mahasamprokshanam of Sri Abishekavalli Samedha Bhakthavachala Perumal temple, one of the 108 Divya Desams, at Thirukannamangai near Tiruvarur was held on Sunday. Holy water was poured on the kalasams of Rajagopuram and vimanas of various sannidhis like the ones for Perumal, Thayar, Alwar, Aandal, Pakshiraja, Hyagreevar, Ramar and Anjaneyar at 9.45 a.m. Hundreds of devotees witnessed the holy event along with HR and CE Minister Periya Karuppan, Dairy Development M U.Mathivanan, Commissioner of HR and CE P.R.Sampath, Private Secretary to Chief Minister, Shanmughanathan and Joint Commissioner of HR and CE Kavitha. The temple was renovated at a cost of Rs 70 lakh.

Bhakthavachala Perumal married Mahalakshmi who was called "Kannamangai" and "Abishekavalli" in this place and hence the name Thirukannamangai. When Thiruparkadal (milky ocean) was churned by Devas and Asuras, many divine Goddesses emerged from the ocean and Mahalakshmi was one of them. She married Vishnu at Thirukannamangai.
