Gap of seven feet to the FRL being maintained in Ngarjunasagar for flood regulation To maintain FRL, the discharge is more than the inflows at Srisailam VIJAYAWADA: Both Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs on which the fate of farmers in Krishna delta (spanning four districts – Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and West Godavari) hinges were full to the brim and receiving a steady inflows of over one lakh cusecs on Sunday. According to irrigation authorities here, the Nagarjunasagar reservoir, which has the capacity of holding 408.25 tmcft, is 95 per cent full, with a gap of 7 feet to the full reservoir level (FRL) kept for flood regulation. The Srisailam reservoir that is receiving inflows of 1.28 lakh cusecs is discharging 1.43 lakh cusecs (that is more than what it is receiving) for maintenance of FRL. Thanks to the early and heavy monsoon, the water position in Nagarjunasagar reservoir is better than the corresponding date last year, when there was only 214 tmcft (little more than 50 per cent) in it. The releases from Nagarjunasagar at 1.20 lakh cusecs were more than the inflows of 1.16 lakh cusecs on Sunday. The inflows at Prakasam barrage was lower at 95,400 cusecs, with no discharge from the streams and rivulets that empty into the river downstream the Nagarjunasagar dam.
