Two forest watchers attacked

Tirupur: Two forest watchers sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked by a group of persons who tried to fell sandalwood trees at Kulipatti reserved forest area on Saturday.

Forest department sources said that Lakshmanan, a forest watcher on permanent payroll, and Panchalingam, a contract employee, were attacked after they arrested a person for cutting the trees.

The other two in the gang fled from the scene only to return later to attack the watchers.

Office damaged

A forest department office where the anti-poaching camp functions, was later attacked by some unidentified persons, sources added.
