Purushotaman wins title

HYDERABAD: T. Purushothaman won the open category title with 5.5 points from six rounds in the 52nd Brilliant Trophy Open chess tournament here on Sunday.

In the juniors' category, S. S. V Aditya of Gitajnali Devashray emerged champion by virtue of a tie-break despite tying with five points each with P. S. D. Rahul. Vibhav Gadwal finished third with 4.5 points.

Open category: Top 10 placings:

1. T. Purushothaman, 2. P. Praveen Prasad, 3. C. R. G. Krishna, 4. Sandeep Naidu, 5. Arun, 6. K. Praneeth Surya, 7. N. Krishna Teja, 8. K. Kaushik, 9. K. S. Anand Reddy and 10. G. V. Srinivas.

Age group winners: Boys: Under-14: Nishok; Under-12: P. S. D. Rahul; Under-10: N. K. Pranav; Under-8: Vibhav Gadwal.

Girls: Under-14: Sharanya; Under-12: Hasitha; Under-10: Poojanjali; Under-8: Natura Bethi.

Best woman player: Swetha; Best veteran: Shakeel Ahmad .

Inter-college basketball

Osmania University Inter-college basketball tournament for men will be held from September 14 to 16 at MJ College of Engineering here.

It was also informed that the inter-college kabaddi tournament for women will be held on September 14 and 15 at Kasturba Gandhi College. The teams should report to Ms Jayasudha, organizing secretary, at the venue by 9:00 am on the first day.
