Raveendran takes title

Thiruvalla: C.R. Raveendran of Ernakulam won the title in the 28th YMCA Open all-Kerala prize-money chess tournament at the YMCA hall here on Sunday.

Raveedran finished with seven points while Sumesh Kabir (Ernakulum) was second with 6.5 points. M.J. Thomas (Kottayam) also with 6.5 was placed third.

In the under -15 category, Timmy George Varkey of Kottayam took the honours with five points followed by J.R. Adarsh of Pathanmthitta with 4.5 points and Allen Philip Varkey with four points.

Don Bosco in final

At Changanassery, Don Bosco HSS, Irinjalakuda, defeated Thevara's Sacred Heart HSS 67-42 and entered the boys' final of the 2nd ESSECH Trophy all-Kerala schools basketball tournament at the Fr. Antony Kaithara Stadium here on Sunday.

The results: Boys semifinals: Don Bosco, Irinjalakuda 67 (Srikanth Sasidharan18, Devson 16, Christo Joy 14, Jilu 10) bt Sacret Heart HSS, Thevara 42 (Samson James 15, Tony Xavier 13). Quarterfinals: Don Bosco, Ijk 21 (Srikanth Sasidharan 10) bt Lourdes, Kottayam 7.

Rovers CC wins

Rovers CC scored a facile 10-wicket win over Pankajakasturi in the Thiruvananthapuram district ‘A' division league cricket league at the Medical College ground on Sunday.

Pankajakasturi, after conceding a first innings lead of 70, collapsed in the second innings and was bundled out for 79. The scores:

Pankajakasturi 146 & 79 (Vinod four for 25, Aneesh four for 32) lost to Rovers CC 216 (Bibin 76, Deepu 53, Nandu five for 44) & 10 for no loss.
