A search is on for eight women in this connection The police identified the victim as M. Martha Bangalore: A 21-year-old woman, who was allegedly beaten by a group of eight women, all hailing from the family of a man with whom the woman's sister had eloped, died on Saturday morning. The police identified the victim as M. Martha, a resident of Swathanthra Nagar in Jeevan Bima Nagar police limits. Martha worked as a Group D employee of South East Education Society. Martha's sister Mary had eloped with her neighbour Anand, a private company employee, on Friday, the K.R. Puram police said. The accused women came to Martha's house where they picked up a quarrel with her and allegedly assaulted her with wooden logs. Martha collapsed around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday and died, the police said. The police have launched a search for the eight women in this connection. Murder bid A 27-year-old woman was allegedly set ablaze by her husband, in front of their twin sons, in K.R. Puram here. The victim, Rajeshwari, was being harassed for dowry by her husband Shivappa (32), a taxi driver, who, on Friday, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze around 2.30 p.m. When Rajeshwari's attempt to alert her neighbours failed, she sent word with her children and neighbours rushed to her rescue. She has suffered 40 per cent burns. Soon after committing the crime, the accused escaped, the police said. The couple were married six years ago.
