VIJAYAWADA: A new committee to look after all arrangements for the ‘Ganesh Festival' will be formed soon in the city, on the lines of ‘Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi' which had been working effectively in the state capital exclusively on the ‘Ganesh festival'. Speaking at a review meeting here on Sunday Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal asked the representatives for a single committee for the city. All the government departments can fulfil the works effectively, if the people who were conducting the festival at various formed a committee, he said. He gave details of the various arrangements being made for the idols' immersion on September 13, 15, 16 and 17. He asked officials of the irrigation, revenue and fisheries department to work on the requirements for the immersion at Bhavani Ghat and Durga Ghat. More idols The Bhavani Ghat will be open only for immersion of small and medium sized idols and the bigger idols would have to be immersed only at the Durga Ghat, he said. Extra measures were needed this time as the number of idols has increased two-fold and also the flood in the river was also a matter of concern, he said. There was a need to use eco-friendly idols for the festival, as there was a chance of harmful chemicals used in the making of the idols getting into the drinking water sources.
