VISAKHAPATNAM: The East Coast Railway Shramik Congress will organise a mass dharna in front of Waltair Divisional Railway Manager's office on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as part of its nation-wide week-long agitation on a call given by the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen. The NFIR New Delhi had been agitating against several long-pending problems in the Indian Railways from September 7 and on Sunday the Shramik Congress working president P. Mohan Rao addressed a gate meeting at 7.30 a.m. to highlight the problems and possible solutions. In view of non-resolution of several problems related to running staff, local reservation staff for a long time, it proposes to organise the dharna, he said in a release here. A memorandum was submitted to the Divisional Railway Manager N. Kasinath on August 24. Majority of problems related to working conditions at the Reservation Office, which according to them was not functioning properly due to non-implementation of ‘rotation system', utilising the services of ‘outsiders' or those from other sections in the Railways at the Reservation and Parcel Offices, non-grant of Leave against Pay and Casual leaves, and improper management of available staff by the Passenger Reservation System. At the running staff level, they should be given a rest of 16 hours at Headquarters, but their duties were requisitioned even before that, Mr. Mohan Rao added.
