Idol immersion rallies

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Vinayakar idols' immersion rallies held in various parts of Tiruvannamalai district on Monday were peaceful.

In Tiruvannamalai, 55 Vinayakar idols kept in various parts of the town and adjoining areas in view of Vinayaka Chaturti were assembled in carts near Gandhi Statue. From there, the idols were taken out in a procession through Theradi Street, Thiruvoodal Street, Thirumanjana Gopura Street and were immersed in Thamarai Kulam. Police led by town DSP P.Vaithilingam made security arrangements. In Vandavasi, idols were taken out in a rally from Theradi Street, through Sannathi Street, Bus Stand, Fort Junction before reaching Poomathu Setti Kulam, where about 35 idols were immersed. DIG H.M.Jayaram and Superintendent of Police M. Pandiyan paid visit to the town and made arrangements. In Chengam, 67 idols taken from Polur Road were immersed in Singarapettai Eari.
