Congress functionary found dead in lodge

Staff Reporter

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Congress Human Rights Wing district president K.K. Devendiran(45) was found dead in a lodge room here on Monday.

Though Mr. Devendiran is native of Kozhunthampattu village in Thandarampattu taluk and involved in politics in this district, he shifted his family to Tiruchi recently for business purposes. He came to Tiruvannamalai on Sunday to attend a few marriage functions and stayed at a hotel on Vellore road. Since he did not wake up on Monday morning, hotel authorities and police personnel broke open the door and found Mr. Devendiran dead on the floor.

On hearing the message, several Congress functionaries and relatives rushed to the hotel. Former MLA and prominent Congress functionary K. Manivarma told TheHindu “It seems a natural death and he should have suffered a cardiac arrest”.

R. Purushothaman, town Congress president, said “It seems that he attempted to call the reception from his bed, once he experienced chest pain but miserably fell from the cot and died. He had a history of cholesterol problem”.

Police sent the body for post-mortem and later, the body was taken to Devendiran's native village, Kozhundhampattu. His last rites would be performed in the village on Tuesday.
