Karnataka wins
BANGALORE: Karnataka defeated Mumbai 3-1 in the opening match of the Dr. M.P. Ganesh and Balbir Singh Grewal under-20 hockey test series at the KSHA stadium here on Monday.
Goals by C.U. Bopanna and M.G. Poonachha put the side 2-0 ahead by the ten-minute mark. Although Chinglen Sana pulled one back for the visitor on fifteen minutes, S.K. Uthappa's goal early in the second half sealed the win for Karnataka.
The second match of the three-match series will be played tomorrow.
The result: Karnataka 3 (C.U. Bopanna 5, M.G. Poonachha 10, S.K. Uthappa 38) bt Mumbai 1 (Chinglen Sana) .
