Review progress of schemes periodically, officials told

RAMANATHAPURAM: K. Allaudin, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister (Monitoring), reviewed the progress of development works in the district here on Monday.

Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, Periar Samathuvapuram, Kalaigner Housing Scheme, functioning of self-help groups, distribution of new ration cards, free gas connection, free television sets and other schemes were reviewed.

Speaking at the meeting which was presided over by Collector T.N. Hariharan, Mr. Allaudin said that it was important that top officials reviewed the progress of works in their respective departments at regular intervals. If the progress was slow, the officials must find out the reasons and expedite the work. All works should be implemented within the stipulated time.

Regular and surprise visits must be made to visit ration shops to check for irregularities. The functioning of Public Distribution System must be reviewed regularly. Unnecessary delay in distribution of ration cards to new applicants must be avoided.

Importance should be given to the implementation of Kalaigner Housing Scheme, Kalaignar Insurance Scheme and others. Distribution of identity cards to the beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Insurance Scheme must be expedited. Officials must submit periodical reports to the Collector about the progress and delay of schemes, he said.

K. Balasubramaniam, District Revenue Officer, and P. Anandraj of District Rural Development Agency, took part. Earlier, Mr. Allaudin visited Sathankulam, Sakkarakottai, Madakottan, Ilamanur among other villages and inspected various works.
