Chitradurga: Zilla panchayat president M. Jayanna has directed officials to spend the sanctioned funds by March next year. Chairing the monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting here on Monday, he said that by achieving cent percent target, the officials should make the district a model one. Taking note of the delay in giving power connection to borewells drilled under the Ganga Kalyana scheme in 2008, he directed the officials of Bescom to provide connections immediately. Bescom officials said 172 borewells had been given power connection in the district. A total of 512 borewells need to be given power supply and it would be done soon, they added. Mr. Jayanna instructed officials of the zilla panchayat engineering department to include villages that had been left out under drinking water scheme. He also asked them to ensure that drinking water was provided in all the rural areas under the scheme. The officials informed that for 2010-11, the Government under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana, had been earmarked Rs. 4.9 crore. It had released Rs. 1.36 crore, of which Rs. 1.34 crore had been spent so far, he added. Joint Director of the Agriculture Department A. Ramdas said that sowing had been completed in 60,000 hectares during the rabi season. The department had reserved adequate seeds and fertilizer. Referring to the housing schemes, he instructed the officials to ensure that houses were given to the homeless and poor people after properly identifying them. “Follow all Government norms strictly during the identification of beneficiaries,” he added. Mr. Jayanna instructed the officials of the sports department to identify sportspersons participating in national-level events and provide them with financial aid. Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Range Gowda was present.
