PROTEST:Cadres of Communist party of India staging a demonstration in Ramanathapuram on Monday. RAMANATHAPURAM: Cadres of Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a demonstration at Bharathi Nagar here on Monday demanding house site pattas for all people except those having permanent houses. M. Appadurai, former Member of Parliament, presided over the agitation. N.K. Rajan, district secretary, M.R. Kalaimani, district secretary, Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam, and R.T. Ragunathan, town secretary, took part. They urged the State Government to take a survey to find out those who did not have permanent houses. They should be given house site pattas for free. Those who were living in government poromboke land, private, temple and other religious mutt lands should be given house pattas. A special Act should be brought to legalise them. The government must reschedule the type of poromboke land on which houses were constructed to legalise their respective houses, they said.
