Physically challenged seek quota in JNNURM houses

In protest mode:Physically challenged persons staging a dharna, seeking revival of pensions, at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Vikalangula Hakkula Porata Samithi (VHPS) demanded allocation of 3 per cent of houses being constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and organized a dharna in front of the District Collector's office here on Monday.

Criticising the lack of Governmental support for the lot of the physically challenged people in all spheres of life the Samithi wanted 3 per cent of shops allocated for the in the shopping complexes, immediate restoration of all the pensions withdrawn.

Creating a barriers-free environment at all the major government office and commercial complexes, super-numeric seats in all educational institutions by amending the G.O. No. 153, and exemption from implementing G.O. No. 66 for them were some of the other demands in a memorandum submitted to the District Collector.

Samithi president Ch. Srinivasa Rao also spoke.
