CHANDIGARH: One person was killed and many injured as hundreds of Jat community members clashed with the police at Hisar in Haryana on Monday demanding a quota in government jobs and educational institutes. The incident took place after a rally of Akhil Bharatiya Jat Sangharsh Samiti turned violent as some of the demonstrators, including women, blocked traffic on the Delhi-Hisar highway. Police initially succeeded in removing them from the road but as the number of agitators swelled they again resorted to road blockade. According to the police, agitators blocked the highway at Hisar and indulged in arson. “Several police personnel, including district police chief Subhash Yadav, were injured as mobs indulged in arson and torched six private and government vehicles. They resorted to heavy stone-throwing on police personnel during the rally,” said a police spokesperson. “They set vehicles on fire and damaged a bank. Police dispersed the mob by resorting to lathi-charge and lobbing teargas,” the official added. The police claimed that they had to fire in the air because of relentless stone-throwing in which some cops were injured. The firing allegedly resulted in the death of Anil Ladwa, a resident of Ladwa village near here. While Ladwa was killed the spot, three agitators were injured in the firing. Some media persons were also injured. The State Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry by the Divisional Commissioner of Hisar to look into the circumstances leading to the death of one person and injuries to many. The Commissioner has been asked to submit report within one month.
