SVU Vice-Chancellor is now Col. Prabhakara Rao

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: Apart from ‘Professor', the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara University N. Prabhakara Rao now gets a new prefix: ‘Colonel'.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) conferred the honorary rank on the Vice-Chancellor at a function here on Tuesday. Air Commodore A.S. Bahal, Deputy Director-General of Andhra Pradesh Directorate formally ‘pipped' the rank on Prof. Rao, who becomes the third Vice-Chancellor of this varsity to get the rank after his immediate predecessors S. Jayarama Reddy and P. Murali. Incidentally, this honour comes closely on the heels of the ‘Group Captain' rank conferred by the Air Force on ‘Master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar.

Air Commodore Bahal and Colonel Rao, followed by NCC's Tirupati group commander Colonel Vijay Bakshi, inspected a guard of honour by 52 cadets of the 29(Andhra) battalion. They later planted saplings.
