IT park to be ready for allotment in December

M.P. Praveen

KOCHI: The first building of the IT park in Cherthala, which is being developed by Infopark Kochi, will be ready for allotment this December.

About 2.5 million sq.ft. built-up area is planned and this is expected to generate over 20,000 direct employment opportunities, Chief Executive Officer of Infopark Siddhartha Bhattacharya told the Hindu in an e-mail interview.

He said an investment of Rs.1,000 crore was expected for the development of the entire park, which, when fully operational, would produce exports worth Rs.1,200 crore.

The park was being developed on 66 acres at Pallipuram village near Cherthala (10 km from NH 47 and about 30 km from Vyttila, Ernakulam). Sixty acres had already been notified as Special Economic Zone (SEZ) while another 10 acres would be developed as a commercial complex.

A slew of infrastructure development works were under way in connection with the park. Construction of compound wall as per SEZ standards, internal roads, cable trenches, drainages, landscaping, 110 kV -20 MVA substation, state-of-the-art power distribution system, sump and overhead tank for water storage and distribution, and sewage treatment plants were some among them.

The other facilities planned include a working women's hostel with day care centre. An exclusive area is earmarked for commercial space consisting of shopping malls, banks, ATMs, recreation and convention centres.

Infopark's another ambitious project is the IT park at Ambalapuzha, which is claimed to be the first ‘water theme' based IT park in India. The idea is to tap into the State's expansive backwaters to promote IT and knowledge-based services.

“With this park, we aim to create an ambience that is extremely conducive for professionals to work in a totally stress-free environment and for busy professionals to indulge in fruitful training and learning activities,” Mr. Bhattacharya said.

The park coming up on the National Highway 47, about 22 km from Alappuzha town, is being developed on about 100 acres at Smrithivanam, Purakkad village.
