Coimbatore: Police have resolved the dispute over the immersion of Vinayakar idols at Kuniamuthur. Following a clash between two groups over the installation of idols in Kuniamuthur area on Saturday night, the police on Sunday night arrested 14 persons belonging to two groups. Demanding the release of the four persons belonging to a Hindu activist group, the organisers of the Chaturthi festival refused to remove the idols for immersion as scheduled on Monday. On Tuesday, following the granting of bail to the four persons by the court, the police persuaded them to remove the idols for immersion. Twenty five idols were taken out on a procession from Arisikadai in Kuniamuthur to Kurichi tank and immersed.
