Meeting for doctors

Special Correspondent

MADURAI: The district health authorities here will soon organise an awareness session on A(H1N1) flu for the benefit of doctors in Primary Health Centres.

Symptoms, treatment and where to refer the affected patients would be explained to PHC doctors by senior professors of Madurai Medical College and experts from the Government Rajaji Hospital.

A. Palanichamy, Deputy Director of Health Services, said on Tuesday that the awareness programme was likely to be held on Saturday and Sunday. “We want to invite the private doctors from rural areas also for this awareness session so that they would know how to handle the suspected cases of A(H1N1),” he said.

The Deputy Director said that one important aspect in dealing with this flu was that the affected persons had to be immediately referred to hospitals like GRH for giving quick treatment and saving their lives. Stating that there was no suspected A(H1N1) case so far in Madurai district, Dr. Palanichamy said that the health department staff in rural areas had been asked to do fever surveillance.
