Rangayana proposes units in Shimoga, Gulbarga

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Mysore-based theatre repertory Rangayana has submitted a proposal to the Government for establishing its units in Shimoga and Gulbarga in 2011. Director of Rangayana Lingadevaru Halemane told presspersons here on Tuesday that the proposal has urged the Government to provide Rs. 1 crore in the initial stages and three acres of land each for establishing the units. In the light of its experience Rangayana wanted to establish its units within the city limits of Shimoga and Gulbarga in the interest of the people. He has inspected some vacant lands in the two cities, Mr. Halemane said.

The Rangayana has organised a four-day theatre festival as a tribute to late B.V. Karanth from September 25 in Mysore. Chairman of the Central Lalitakala Akedemi Ashok Vajpayee, Director of the New Delhi-based National School of Drama Keerthi Jain, sculptor Balan Nambiyar and the former Minister, M.P. Prakash, would participate in the event. As many as four plays, including a Tamil play, would be staged during the festival, he said.
