Hospital officials vaccinated against swine flu

TIRUVARUR: As a precautionary measure, vaccination was done to hospital staff in the district against H1N1 (swine flu) on Wednesday.

Collector, M. Chandrasekaran, inaugurated the vaccination camp at Tiruvarur Medical college Hospital.

Starting from Medical superintendent of the hospital, to para-medical staff and workers, everyone was vaccinated against H1N1. Similarly vaccination was done to all staffs in all the government hospitals and primary health centres .

Later, Mr.Chandrasekaran told reporters 1,940 units of Panenza vaccine have been received from the government and administered to the staff. People (doubtful cases) can on demand get vaccinated against H1N1. The fever is spread through H1N1 Type A Influenza virus.

Symptoms of the disease are problem in respiration, chest pain, giddiness, vomiting, and loose motion. Face mask can be used to prevent spread. "Vaccination is done as a precautionary measure and there is no H1N1 case reported in Tiruvarur, " the Collector said.

S.Rajasekaran, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said out of 1,940 units of vaccine, 600 would be used for the medical college staff. He said Tiruvarur Medical College has been serving nearly 1,000 outpatients every day.
