Jamal Mohammed retains title

TIRUCHI: Jamal Mohammed College won all its matches in the semifinal league to retain the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate basketball tournament here on Wednesday.

AVC College bagged the second spot with two victories, while Bishop Heber College finished third with a solitary triumph.

The results (semifinal league): Jamal Mohammed College 79 (Ram Prasad 14, Gopikrishnan 12, Mujibur Rahman 10) bt AVC College 65 (Aravind 20, Praveen Kumar 15); Bishop Heber College 46 (Jagan 13, Vidyarajan 11) bt St. Joseph's College 31 (Adinarayanan 11) .

Devendrakumar shines

T. Devendrakumar (107) starred in Sri Vasantha Sweets CC's 27-run win over Vignesh Sports Club in the TNCA – Dindigul DCA first division cricket league.

The scores:

First division: St. Peter's CC 278 in 40 overs (M. Mohammed 90, M. Abdur Rahim 58, M.S. Muthuvivekanandar 37, S. Mahesh three for 87) bt Mansur CC 180 in 40 overs (A. Saffik 46, S. Sathish 41, N. Murugesan three for 11).

Sri Vasantha Sweets CC 210 in 44.5 overs (T. Devendrakumar 107, S. Karthik 29) bt Vignesh Sports Club 183 in 44.2 overs (M. Vinoth 51, A. Thangadurai four for 43, S. Karthik three for 36).

Fourth division: JSBZ CC 140 for eight in 20 overs (I. Subash 33, Ashok Kumar three for 28) bt Hindustan CC 63 in 13.5 overs (Stalin 25, B. Ramesh five for 14) .

North East zone won the men's and women's chess team titles in the all-India Airports Authority of India tournament here on Wednesday.

Final standings (after fifth and final round):

Men: 1. North East zone (Anupam Vorgohain, Raj Konwaar, Dipankar Das, Thomba Singh) 17pts.

2. South zone (G. Sathibabu, K.V. Sudharsan, R. Kannan, K. Lavakumar) 11.5.

3. East zone (Sahadev Kundu, Abhijit Ghosh, Sanjay Kumar, Ajay Singh) 11.

Women: 1. North East zone (Hema Konwar, Dulumani Das, Saritha Mech, Anjana Bhomick) 16.5; 2. West zone (Vasanthi Parameshwaran, Sangeetha Jhadav, Sandhiya, Vanitha Motwani) 15; 3. South zone (U. Kavitha, Uma Saraswathi, Vijaya, Hemavathi Renganathan)12.5 .
