Differently abled on an awareness expedition

VILLUPURAM: A team of 10 differently abled persons, all paraplegics, who have set out on five motorcycles from Kanyakumari to Chennai, reached here on Thursday.

Collector R. Palanisamy, District Revenue Officer N. Venkatachalam, Public Relations Officer M. Palanisamy, and Welfare Officer for the differently abled Thangavel received them.

According to K.J. Pushaparaj, who led the team, the expedition was undertaken as a thanks-giving gesture to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for having created a separate ministry for their sake.All along the route, the members were creating awareness of various welfare schemes launched by the government for the benefit of the differently abled.

It was also intended to inform the Chief Minister about the problems faced by paraplegics in day-to-day life and seek remedial measures.

Mr. Pushparaj said that the team had passed through Kanyakumari, Thiruchendur, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul and Tiruchi before reaching Villupuram.

Two more differently abled persons from Villupuram joined the team in the journey.
