Farmers of 22 villages oppose buffer zones
Correspondent
Kolhapur: Farmers in 22 villages in Kolhapur district have opposed the formation of 91 buffer zones as proposed by the Forest Department covering 27,291 hectares of land in Shahuwadi tahsil.
The proposed buffer zones will adversely affect development of villages and hence the gram panchayats concerned will have to oppose the department's proposal, according to former MLA Satyajit Patil at a press conference here on Tuesday.
As the department has not clarified whether there will be freedom or restriction for routine activities, including mining and other industrial activities, the proposal is against farmers' interests and hence should be opposed and all panchayats have been asked to pass resolutions.
