CUDDALORE: A special ward has been opened in the Cuddalore headquarters government hospital to treat A (H1N1) influenza afflicted patients, according to R.Meera, Deputy Director (Health Services), Cuddalore.

In a statement here, Dr Meera said that the flu caused by virus was not a killer disease but was curable. Therefore, the people need not panic. Those having the symptoms of the flu could approach the special ward in the government hospital for treatment.

She said that the State government had taken up the preventive and curative measures on a war-footing.

In the designated hospitals, medical colleges and private hospitals free diagnosis was being done for treating the flu. She said that besides Tamiflu the patients were also being treated with Nasovac and Vaxiflu in the King Institute of Preventive Medicine, Guindy, and the empanelled hospitals. If the disease was confirmed through testing of blood and mucus samples it could be easily cured.

At the initial stage, before 48 hours of infection, Tamiflu tables could be consumed on the advice of doctors.

The common symptoms of the disease were fever, running nose, cough, headache, body ache, throat pain, nasal blockade, shivering and weakness, and in certain cases vomiting and dysentery.
