Rs. 13.17-crore assistance distributed

PUDUKOTTAI: A special mass contact programme was held at Ponnagaram village near Manalmelkudi in the district on Wednesday. A. Suganthi, District Collector, who presided over the programme, received petitions from the public.

Addressing the villagers, the Collector assured them that action would be taken on the petitions submitted on the occasion. Steps would be taken immediately for setting up a fair price shop and an agricultural depot in the village.

She also explained the free health camp and free veterinary camp organised as part of the programme.

The Collector appealed to farmers to submit the applications for free electric motors on or before September 25.

Later, the Collector gave away assistance to the tune of Rs.13.17 crore to the beneficiaries. Ten farmers got assistance to the tune of Rs. 3 lakh under the National Agriculture Development Project for raising paddy through the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technique.

An exhibition on the achievements of the on-going schemes in the district was organised. Exhibits and tableaux on projects being implemented by various departments and agencies, including the Integrated Child Development Scheme, Agricultural Engineering and Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments were on display.
