H.H. The Rajah's wins men's title

TIRUCHI: H.H. The Rajah's College and AVVM Sri Pushpam College won the men's and women's titles respectively in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate tennis tournament here.

The results (best of 11 games):

Men:

Final: H.H. The Rajah's bt Bishop Heber 2-0 (A. Ganesh bt R. Kannan 6-5; T. Tamilselvan & Shajahan bt M. Vivek & R. Kannan 6-2).

Third place: Thanthai Hans Roever bt St. Joseph's 2-1.

Women:

Final: AVVM Sri Pushpam bt Seethalakshmi Ramaswami 2-0 (M. Sivaranjani bt S. Priyadharashini 6-2; S. Akila bt K. Deepa 6-0).

Third place: Nehru Memorial bt Holy Cross 2-1.

Sathibabu in sole lead

G. Sathibabu of south zone was the sole leader with three points after the third round of the men's chess event in the all-India Airports Authority of India tournament here on Thursday.

Suresh shines

Suresh's unbeaten 79 was the highlight of Sankar Polytechnic College's 67-run win over EPF in the TNCA-Tirunelveli DCA ‘B' division cricket league.

The scores: ‘B' division: Sankar Polytechnic College 196 for six in 20 overs (Suresh 79 n.o., Jeganath 31 n.o., Manoj three for 17) bt EPF 129 in 20 overs (Prabhukanna 35 n.o., Madhu three for 16).

Anbukarangal 137 for six in 20 overs (Vallinayagam 34) lost to Seven Star 141 for eight in 19.2 overs (P. Aravind 53 n.o., P. Muthuraman 31, S. Avudaiappan three for 17, M. Sankarasekar three for 22).

Mars 63 for eight in 15.1 overs (B.P. Binu three for seven, S. Deepashu Srivastava three for 21) lost to LPSC 66 for one in 6.1 overs.

STHC posts win

S.T. Hindu College (STHC) edged MDT Hindu College 2-1 in a first round match of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate football tournament in Palayamkottai on Thursday.
