BERHAMPUR: One more death due to cholera was reported from Rayagada district on Thursday. With it the total official death toll due to cholera and diarrhoea outbreak in the district rose to 40. The recent victim was Lucku Tuika of Mandijhol village of Dumurineli panchayat in Bisamkatak block. Around 800 patients are now getting treated in different medical centres in the district. According to Rayagada district Collector, Nitin Bhanudas Jawale, the incidence of deaths due to the water-borne diseases was coming down in the district. Medical facilities have started to reach out to extreme remote areas now. It has also proved to be a major check against prevalence of malaria. The mobile medical teams are also shifting several malaria cases to the near by health centres. Cases of common malaria as well as cerebral malaria also rise in remote areas of Rayagada district during the monsoons. Availability of medical teams has also put check on rise of malaria cases and deaths due to the disease as these patients are also getting medical attention in time, health official said.
