Coimbatore: All the 250 petrol outlets in Coimbatore District will go on an indefinite strike from 6 a.m. of September 20 (Monday) in adherence to the call given by the All India Federation. A meeting in this connection of the Coimbatore District Petroleum Dealers Association was held here on Wednesday. Petrol outlet owners across the country decided to down their shutters indefinitely after talks with oil companies and the Oil Ministry over a new formula for deciding dealer commission failed on Monday. The Federation of All India Petroleum Traders, which represents around 38,700 petrol outlets in the country, had been demanding dealer commission as a percentage of the invoice price instead of the fixed amount on each litre. The demand was since the government lifted control over petrol pricing - at least on paper - in June and allowed oil companies to change prices after every 30 days in line with international crude. The strike would also press for margin on percentage basis.
