“Provide A(H1N1) vaccines free”

Special Correspondent

Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa has asked the State government to clarify if it will provide the A(H1N1) vaccine free of charge at government hospitals.

A(H1N1) was spreading rapidly in Tamil Nadu, she said, and at a time like this, the government should have taken a policy decision to provide vaccines free to the people.

Instead, the Health Minister was telling the public to go to the private hospitals to get themselves vaccinated, she charged.

In the private sector, the vaccine can cost up to Rs. 600 and this would be unaffordable to the poor and downtrodden people, she said in a statement.
