A warning signal to BJP Government, says Kumaraswamy Results a lesson to the Congress, says Eshwarappa Bangalore/Gulbarga: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday expressed satisfaction over the results of the bypolls to the Gulbarga South and Kadur Assembly Constituencies though it was able to win only one of them. The party termed the results, in which the Congress slipped to third position in both the Assembly constituencies, as a lesson to the Congress and its (Congress) leaders Siddaramaiah, N. Dharam Singh and M. Mallikarjun Kharge. Soon after the results were declared, BJP State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa told presspersons that the results of bypoll in Kadur Assembly dominated by the backward Kuruba community was a strong message to the Congress and Mr. Siddaramaiah that they cannot continue to divide people on the lines of caste and community in the name of AHINDA (Kannada acronym for Minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits) movement. The results of bypoll from Gulbarga South Constituency, in which the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh's son, Ajay Singh, lost was a message to Mr. Singh and Union Minister M. Mallikarjuna Kharge that people are against dynasty politics, he said. He pointed out that Mr. Kharge's son had also lost the elections from Chittapur Assembly constituency earlier. He sought to downplay the victory of the Janata Dal (Secualr) in Gulbarga South by maintaining that it was sheer sympathy wave in favour of the deceased MLA's wife that helped the party to sail through. Mr. Eshwarappa maintained that the results of Kadur Assembly bypoll had dispelled the myth being propagated by the Opposition that the BJP was a party of upper castes. ‘Lesson to BJP' The former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday said the verdict of the people in the Gulbarga South Assembly Constituency was a fitting lesson to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and warning signal to the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the State to mend its ways. The Janata Dal (Secular) leader did not hide his happiness over the victory of the party candidate Aruna Chandrashekhar Patil Revoor in the byelection in Gulbarga South Assembly Constituency and said: “Ms. Patil's win is a victory against the money and muscle power and the verdict of the people against the autocratic leadership of the BJP.” Talking to presspersons in Gulbarga, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the verdict of the byelections in Kadur and Gulbarga South was like a mixture of jaggery and neem (bevu bella) distributed during Ugadi festival. “We are happy with the outcome of Gulbarga South and we would have been doubly happy if we had won Kadur also…. We have to blame ourselves for the loss in Kadur because of some overconfidence and failure to counter the strategy of the BJP”.
