KFDC to set up fish outlets in all districts
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: The Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) is planning to set up its retail fish outlets in all districts of the State.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Minister for Fisheries and Science and Technology Anand Asnotikar said the corporation had retail fish outlets in Mangalore, Madikeri and Bangalore. Plans were afoot to extend the network of outlets to all districts.
Currently, the KFDC is constructing outlets in Shimoga, Kolar, and Tumkur at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh each utilising funds sanctioned under the Rastreeya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) of the Centre, he said. The fish canteen at the Cubbon Park in Bangalore was being upgraded at a cost of Rs. 96 lakh under the scheme.
The corporation was planning to bring nearly 150 fisherwomen at the Central Fish Market in Mangalore under the formal banking network. The local branch of the Indian Overseas Bank had agreed to provide financial support ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh to them at 9 per cent interest rate. The KFDC had been helping the bank in identifying beneficiaries for loan disbursal.
