Chief Minister names tiger cubs

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi named three white tiger cubs at Vandalur zoo on Friday.

An official release said a pair of white tigers was brought from New Delhi zoo in exchange for a pair of Lion Tailed Macaques from Vandalur zoo. The white tigress delivered three cubs in June, which included two female cubs.

The Chief Minister named the male cub as ‘Sembian' in memory of the Chola King . The female cubs have been named Indira and Valli. The name Indira was given in memory of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Valli to remember Thillayadi Valliyammai, who took part in South African freedom struggle along with Mahatma Gandhi.

Forest Minister N. Selvaraj, Chief Wildlife Warden R. Sundararaju and Vandalur Zoo director K.S.S.V.P. Reddy were present.
