Mangalore
Complaint was filed at Barke police station Case will be thoroughly investigated, says Police Commissioner MANGALORE: An employee of Hyderabad-based construction company IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects Ltd. alleged at a press conference here on Friday that he was abducted from the Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd. office around a month ago. However, despite of filing a complaint with the Barke police, where the registration number of the car used during the abduction was mentioned, no action had been taken so far. Allegation B.N. Satish, IVRCL's senior manager, who also spoke at the press conference, charged the police with remaining inactive on account of political pressure. Rajeshwarachary, the victim, said that he visited the MSEZL office on August 16 to submit his company's bid for the construction of a pipeline project. He alleged that he was waiting to submit the bid when some persons approached him and snatched the bag containing the bid documents. “I followed them and demanded that they return the bag. They forced me into a waiting car and took me away,” he said. The abductors allegedly kept him in their custody until that evening and put him into a Bangalore-bound bus. “One person was in the bus and a car followed the bus till Bangalore,” he said. Owing to the abduction, IVRCL could not participate in the bid process. In a letter dated August 17, a copy of which was made available at the press conference, the company asked the executive director of MSEZL to cancel the earlier bid and invite a fresh one. “After all our efforts to get justice failed, we decided to go public with the incident,” said Mr. Satish. City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “The IVRCL officials met me today (Friday) and submitted a memorandum. There is no question of protecting anybody and the matter will be thoroughly investigated.” The chief operating officer of MSEZL, A.G. Pai, refused to comment on the issue.
