Crackdown on rule violators

Transport Department registers hundreds of cases

Coimbatore: The Transport Department, in a drive against road rule violations, has registered hundreds of cases.

Deputy Transport Commissioner – Coimbatore Circle K.N. Uthayanun said that Rs. 1,15,993 was realised as tax and Rs. 14,100 was proposed as tax to be realised by the respective registering authorities, during the drive. A compounding fee of Rs. 1,47, 695 too was realised. A sum of Rs. 3,49,900 was proposed as compounding fee for offences to be realised by the respective registering authorities after adhering to formalities such as serving of notice seeking explanation. During the drive conducted on September 17 and 18 in three districts, 3,330 motor vehicles were intercepted and 402 check reports were served for the violations/offences detected. The drive would continue in the coming days too.
