Speed limit on Coimbatore roads increased

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu has said that the speed limit on city roads have been increased to 40 kmph and 50 kmph from the existing 30 kmph and 40 kmph.

Following representations from the general public, a consultative meeting held by the Commissioner with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Transport Department, Highways Department, bus drivers, school and college authorities, it was decided to revise the speed limits.

The 40 kmph speed limit would be applicable on Sathyamangalam Road (till city limit), Dr.Nanjappa Road, Cross Cut Road, 100 feet road, Bharathiar Road, Dr.Balasundaram Road, VKK Menon Road, Chinnasamy Road, Avarampalayam Road, Kamarajar Road, Race Course road, Mettuppalayam Road (till city limits), Thadagam Road (till city limits), Marudhamalai Road (till city limits), Ukkadam to Aattuppalayam, Big Bazaar Street, Diwan Bahadur Road (D B Road), Cowley Brown Road, Brooke Bond Road, Goods Shed Road, Perur Bypass road, Valankulam Bypass Road and Palakkad Road till Kuniamuthur.

The 50 kmph speed limit would be applicable till city limits on Tiruchi Road, Avanashi Road, Pollachi Road, Palakkad Road (from Kuniamuthur till city limits). Speed limit indicator boards have been installed. City Police Commissioner exhorted the motorists to render their co-operation in adhering to the speed limits to reduce accidents and make city roads safer.
