Vizag triumphs in style

VIJAYAWADA: Vizag defeated Krishna 2-1 to lift the 38th Andhra sub-junior inter-district carrom title for boys at Guntur on Saturday. Anantapur beat Guntur 2-1 to finish third.

In the cadet girls' singles segment, Ch. Amulya, Nagamani, P. Chandana, Tejeswi, S. Janaki, T. Madhavi and Subhadra reached the quarterfinals. A. Sharath, Guntur Joint Collector, inaugurated the tournament.

North Zone posts win

North Zone defeated South Zone by three wickets in the ACA U-19 inter-zonal limited overs tournament for N. Venkata Rao Trophy at Anantapur on Saturday.

The scores:

South Zone 246 in 49.2 overs (Shiva Charan Singh 63, Ahmed Basha 56) lost to North Zone 247 for seven in 49.2 overs (G. Chiranjeevi 64, M.U.B. Sriram 60, Ch. Praneeth 58, C. Vinod Kumar four for 51).

Karnataka wins

Karnataka scored a 63-run victory over the visiting Chinese team in the ACA Challenger Cup T20 match at IGMC stadium here on Saturday. H. Kirthika was declared player of the match.

The scores:

Karnataka 110 for six in 20 overs (H. Kirthika 33) bt China 47 (Saba two for five, Rajeswari two for seven, Spoorthy two for five).

Selection trials

The trials to select the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences football team will be held at Kakatiya Medical College at Warangal on September 21.

The selected team will take part in the South Zone tournament to be held at Vellore Institute Technology, Vellore from October 18.

Trials to select the tennis women's team will be held at Gandhi Medical College at Secunderabad on September 23.

The selected team will taka part in the South-West Zone tournament to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada in the month of October.

Players from medical, dental, ayurvedic, homeopathic, Unani, physiotherapy and nursing colleges affiliated to Dr. NTRUHS are eligible.
