HYDERABAD: Shagun Kamat's impressive century (178, 231b, 13x4, 3x6) helped Goa score a challenging 323 against Orissa on the first day of the two-day semifinal of the Coromandel King All India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here on Saturday. The only other batsman who showed the desired inclination to stay at the crease was Robin d' Souza (46,88b, 5x4, 1x6). Shagun displayed admirable technique and temperament and his stroke selection was near-perfect. Thanks to his ton, Goa is now in a comfortable position even as the other batsmen found the bowling of Niranjan Behera (four for 75) too good to handle. In reply, Orissa was five for one at close of play. The first day's play between HCA President's XI and Uttar Pradesh in the other semifinal at the Gymkhana Ground was abandoned due to a wet outfield. It is informed that if there are no further rains, the match would be reduced to a one-dayer to decide the finalist. The scores: HCA President's XI vs Uttar Pradesh – 1st day's play abandoned due to wet outfield. At Uppal: Goa 323 all out in 89.3 overs (Shagun Kamat 178, Robin D Souza 46, Niranjan Behera four for 75) vs Orissa five for one in 2.3 overs .
