Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa on Saturday said he will hold a meeting with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa within a fortnight on starting a suburban train service for Bangalore city.

The Minister said the discussion will not only revolve around having a suburban train service in the city, but also cover execution of several railway projects to ease traffic bottlenecks.

Several pending issues between the State Government and the Indian Railways will be discussed during the meeting, Mr. Muniyappa said.

He was speaking to presspersons after inspecting developmental works connected with the Railways in the Hebbal Assembly Constituency and discussing them with Housing, Information Technology and Bangalore (North) in-charge Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu here.

During the meeting, Mr. Naidu impressed upon Mr. Muniyappa the need for Railway land to construct underpasses and flyovers at five places between Kanakanagar and Lottegollahalli, coming under Hebbal constituency. The Railway Minister promised necessary action and asked the State Government to provide the details of land requirement.

Dorms for workers

During the discussion, Mr. Muniyappa suggested that Mr. Naidu could offer some sort of shelter to labourers coming to Bangalore from outside the State. Responding to this, Mr. Naidu said dormitories accommodating 600 people each will be built in four corners of Bangalore city.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Siddaiah and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena and other officials were present.
