CHENNAI: Even as the Election Commission convened an all-party meeting to discuss Delimitation of Legislative Council constituencies on Monday, the CPI (M) expressed its unhappiness over non-inclusion of many of the suggestions made by the Opposition parties in the last meeting. The Election Commission had informed that it had finalised the constituencies for teachers and graduates, besides effecting a couple of changes in clubbing the districts. Earlier Ariyalur had been clubbed with Tiruchi, while Cuddalore and Perambalur were part of a constituency. Now Perambalur and Tiruchi are together, while Cuddalore and Ariyalur come under one constituency. “The Commission is silent on granting voting rights to primary school teachers and panchayat presidents. There is no talk about reservation for women and others,” said CPI (M) State secretariat member K. Balakrishnan who represented the party in the previous meeting. No clear idea He said there was no clear idea about the voting rights of graduates. “Where will you place a high school teacher who is also a graduate? Will he vote for graduates constituency or teachers constituency? Where will a corporation councillor who is also a graduate stand?,” he asked. PMK is happy with the changes made in clubbing of districts. “But our demands with regard to other constituencies have not been looked into. We want the EC to consider our demands,” said advocate K. Balu, who represented the PMK in the Commission.
