Kolleru: CPI(M) blames Congress

Staff Reporter

ELURU: The CPI(M) district committee secretary M. Sitaram on Sunday blamed the ruling Congress for the plight of fishermen in Kolleru.

Addressing a media conference on the eve of the visit of the Committee for Conservation of the Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary, he accused the Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao of shedding crocodile tears for the fishermen who lost their livelihood with the dismantling of fishponds during the Operation Kolleru under taken by the government.

The Congress government, which was responsible for the Operation Kolleru programme and subsequent disturbance of the livelihoods of the fishermen, had piloted a resolution under the stewardship of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy seeking to reduce the size of the sanctuary area in Kolleru.

It was nothing but a ‘political drama' allegedly scripted and enacted by the ruling Congress only to ‘fool' the gullible fishing communities in the lake, he criticised.
