Coimbatore: The Saravanampatty police are investigating into a complaint of corporal punishment reportedly meted out by a school teacher to Kavya (6), studying in first standard in Corporation primary school in Ganapathy area. The girl's farther Ganesan, in the complaint, stated that a school teacher had reportedly caned Kavya, a couple of days ago, resulting in hospitalisation. PDS rice seized The railway police, who were patrolling platform number 1 at the Coimbatore Railway Junction, stumbled upon 10 bags each containing 25 kg of Public Distribution System rice. Police suspect that the consignment was about to be smuggled across to Kerala in a Mangalore-bound train. Tight security In the wake of the ruling in the Ayodhya title dispute case expected to be pronounced by the court on September 24, the City Police have planned to throw a tight security blanket cover across the city in general and communally sensitive areas in particular. City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu told reporters that more than 2,500 police personnel would be on deployment in addition to the standby strength from Armed Reserve, Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion and Central Paramilitary forces. Armed pickets would be posted in vantage locations besides reactivating the check-posts on all arterial and feeder roads. Vehicle checks and lodge checks would be intensified from Tuesday, he added.
